DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Business of the Book seminar brings together authors\, publishers and booksellers in a frank discussion about the book business. This year\, we are giving voice to all the players in a discussion which is long overdue amid the changing publishing industry. \nWe aim to provide authors with an understanding of how books are made: from the author who writes a manuscript to the publisher who turns it into a book; to the bookseller who sells it to readers. All parts of the book value chain contribute to the publishing industry that forms the “business” of the book. \nWhat makes up the cost of books?  What is the cost of distributing books? What about online sales? Join us and be part of the conversation with industry experts who will be unpacking these and more questions.

DESCRIPTION:Join us as we celebrate the Power of Authors\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Academic and Non-Fiction Authors’ Association of South Africa (ANFASA) is hosting a two-day virtual international conference\, to explore and debate the role and status of authors in society. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhy attend?\n\n\n\n\n\nKnowledge production and the voice of the author has never been more important. Authors need to continue writing as they observe and reflect on humanity and the ways of the world. They are the ones we will rely on to record and narrate the stories for generations to come. \nBut In South Africa\, imported knowledge far outstrips what we produce ourselves. We need more authors writing\, especially more scholars writing and producing African scholarship. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho should attend?\n\n\n\n\n\nThis high-level conference aims to attract published authors and thought leaders able to question and reflect on how authors can influence the course of events in the world. \nANFASA is hoping for\, and expecting a strong presence from the academy\, from both established and emergent scholarly authors.
